Johann Gottfried Rosenberg

Johann Gottfried Rosenberg ( * ca October 1709 in Woldegk, † June 4, 1776 in Schleswig ) was a German - Danish architect in the Rococo period.

Life

Johann Gottfried Rosenberg's exact birth date is unknown; He was baptized on 20 October 1709 Woldegk, Mecklenburg -Strelitz. He learned Mason at his father and Martin Ciliaxsen in Greifswald. In the 1730s he worked in Schleswig-Holstein as court architect of Duke Friedrich Karl ( Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Plön ). For him, he designed the stables and the later so called prince house Plön Castle. In 1736 he became a citizen of the city of Kiel. From 1740 he was also active in Denmark, where he also took up residence in 1752. Among his early works, the manor of Margard, Vigerslev Sogn ( Nordfyns municipality ) counts on Funen, which is influenced by French country architecture.

He worked with Nicolai Eigtved together on a number of projects in Copenhagen in the early 1750s. These include the Adelspalais Dehn, Bernstorff and Berckentin Bredgade in the district Frederiksstaden, which was built at that time, as well as the mansion Frederiksdal in the north of Copenhagen on the banks of Bagsvaerd Sø.

1760 Rosenberg returned back as a ducal architect to Schleswig -Holstein. Here he was responsible for the construction of the Royal Mint to Altona in 1771.

His most important works were the Gravenstein ( 1758-59 ) and Schloss Augustenburg ( Denmark) ( 1770-76 ).

As an architect he planned the Schleswig-Holstein churches in the High Field ( 1767), Horst ( 1768) and Hohenweststedt (1769 /71). The cemetery chapel of Kappeln ( 1767) is attributed to him. In addition, are opinions and draft him for the churches in Bad Oldesloe, Großenaspe and Wilster as well as comprehensive, but non-executed plan for Castle width castle (1761 ).

His son Georg Erdman Rosenberg (1739-1788) was also a master builder and architect.
