Johann Gottlieb Hantzsch

Johann Gottlieb Hantzsch ( born March 19, 1794 in Neudorf (now in Dresden ), † April 3, 1848 in Dresden ) was a German genre painter.

Life and work

The son of a bricklayer attended from 1811 to 1822 the Dresden Art Academy. At first he devoted himself to military motifs and romantic depictions. From 1827 Hantzsch painted mainly domestic - petty-bourgeois motifs, some of which were engraved by his friend with him Ludwig Richter ( The blind village Geiger, The first tooth, village wedding ). From 1834 he worked as an art teacher at the Saxon Corps of Cadets.

Johann Gottlieb Hantzsch was married to Mathilde Kretzschmar ( 1805-1883 ). His daughter Agnes Mathilde (1840-1861) married in 1859 the son of Ludwig Richter, John Henry ( 1830-1890 ). After the death of his first wife, married the second daughter of Hantzsch ', Julie Amalie.
