Johann-Heinrich-Merck-Preis
The Johann Heinrich Merck Prize for literary criticism and essay was donated in 1964 by Merck KGaA. He has since been awarded by the German Academy for Language and Literature during their annual fall meeting, simultaneously with the Georg Büchner Prize and the Sigmund Freud Prize. The doping is since 2013 20.000 €.
The prize is dedicated to Johann Heinrich Merck (1741-1791), author of "good reviews and essays ," as the Academy writes.
