Johann Heinrich Rolle

Role Johann Heinrich ( born December 23, 1716 in Quedlinburg, † December 29, 1785 in Magdeburg ) was a composer and music educator.

Life

Role was born role as a son of the future cantor at Magdeburg Old Town Gymnasium Christian Friedrich. The father took over the training of his musically gifted son. 1722 the family moved to Magdeburg.

In 1734 role was given a job as organist at Magdeburg St. Peter's Church, which he held until 1737. From 1740 he was employed in the chapel of Frederick II, first as a violinist, then as a violist. In 1746, he returned as an organist at St. John's Church to Magdeburg. In 1752 he became his father's successor as cantor of the high school.

Role also took over the function of a municipal director of music. In this position, he worked in the spirit of the Enlightenment. He succeeded that of Magdeburg from 1764, when one of the first cities in Germany without residence, concerts performed that unfolded broadly applicable.

Role was one which was founded by Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Gleim called Wednesday Club. He used here to contact Heinrich Rathmann, Friedrich von Koepcken, Johann Bernhard Basedow, Johann Samuel Patzke, Friedrich Gabriel Resewitz, Gottfried Benedict radio and God Help Sebastian Rötger.

His compositions are in the tradition of the baroque, but they are already characterized by the transition of the high baroque period through to so-called galant style of Rococo. Role left behind a large number of works that are still played today. At eight plants originate the texts by Johann Samuel Patzke, at four plants, the texts of August Hermann Niemeyer were written.

Honors

The city of Magdeburg has a street named in his honor as part road. In Quedlinburg music school bears his name.
