Johann Heinrich van Ess

Leander van dining ( Johann Heinrich van dining, * February 15, 1772 in Warburg in the Bishopric of Paderborn, † October 13, 1847 in Affolterbach, Odenwald) was a Catholic theologian and author of a translation of the Bible into German.

Life

Van dining attended high school in marianum and Warburg in 1790 Benedictine in Marienmunster at Paderborn, where he took the religious name Leander and 1796 priests ordained. After the dissolution of the monastery in 1802, he moved to Schwalenberg ( lip ) and worked as a pastor. From 1812 he was a professor at the University of Marburg, co-director of the local school teachers' college and pastor of Marburg. He stepped back from office in 1822 and then lived in Darmstadt and in 1835 in Alzey as a private scholar. Leander van dining gathered a large extent manuscripts and printed books old. He focused particularly on the creation of a German Bible translation and distribution of the Bible among the people, which made him a precursor of the Catholic Bible movement of the 19th century.

Together with his cousin Karl van eating he translated yet during his tenure as priest and pastor of the New Testament, which was published in Brunswick in 1807. Leander van dining has also created a 1827 edition of the Bible itself - a combination of the Complutensischen polyglot and the Erasmian text.

Issued between 1807 and 1821 several bishoprics and theological faculties of the translation of their license to practice. However, the Catholic Church criticized van eating ' publicly expressed views on various doctrines, and continued his New Testament on 19 December 1821 the Index Librorum Prohibitorum.
