Johann Ludwig Brassicanus

John Brassicanus (actually Kölli, Kol, or Kohl Koehl; * after 1475 in Konstanz, † March 21, 1514 in Wildbad ) was a German humanist, scholar and grammarian.

Life

Brassicanus was preceptor in Tübingen, in 1500 he became a Latin schoolmaster in Cannstatt, from 1509 onwards, he was head of the Tübingen Latin School.

In 1508 he published the " Institutiones Grammaticae ", a systematic presentation of Latin grammar and an important work of his time. He described one of the most important humanistic books collections in Europe, the Bibliotheca Corvina (2000 volumes), the king Matthias Corvinus ( 1458-1490 ) had let build up.
