Johann Peter Beaulieu
Jean -Pierre Baron de Beaulieu Marconnay ( born October 26, 1725 in Lathuy, Brabant; † 22 December 1819 in Linz, Austria ) was an Austrian general.
Life
Jean -Pierre de Beaulieu occurred in 1743 in the Austrian army, and acquired in 1757 as Adjutant General Field Marshal Daun in the Seven Years' War in the battles of Kolin, Wroclaw, Marktleuthen, Hochkirch among others the rank of lieutenant colonel in the general staff and the Baron title.
During the following long ceasefire Beaulieu made at his castle in Belgium art studies and was awarded the contract to beautify the imperial summer residences. In 1768 he was hired as a colonel in the Militärgouvernement the Netherlands in Mechelen.
After the outbreak of the Brabant Revolution he commanded an Austrian corps and contributed much to the rapid suppression of the rebellion, which he ( with rank of 14 March 1789) the transport enlisted to Major General on 31 May 1790. The French Revolution war increased his commander fame and he became already on 19 October 1790 Feldmarschalleutnant.
On April 29, 1792 by the General Biron at Jemappes attacked with 12,000 men, he proposed the following day the enemy at Quiévrain, pursued him to the gates of Valenciennes and defended under the Duke Albert of Saxe -Teschen, the Dutch frontier against the incursions of the French. In the battle of Jemappes (5 November 1792), he led the left wing and covered the retreat.
Also in the following campaigns 1793-95 he performed valuable services. 1795 Beaulieu Quartermaster General of the Army of the Rhine under Clerfait, was on March 4, 1796 Feldzeugmeister and on March 17, commander of the army in Italy. In the battle of Montenotte he stretched his line too much like to meet Genoa, and was therefore defeated by Bonaparte. After the Battle of Lodi he threw half his army to Mantua and retreated back across the Mincio. Then he laid on June 21, the field -marshal's baton in the hands Wurmser and since lived in seclusion on his estate near Linz, where he died on 22 December 1819.
