Johann Salomon Wahl

Johann Salomon choice (* 1689 in Chemnitz, † 1765 in Copenhagen) was a court painter of Christian VI. of Denmark. He portrayed the royal family in hundreds of images.

Life and work

Choice was educated as a painter in the years 1705-1711 at David Hoyer in Leipzig. To 1719, he settled in Hamburg, where he counted as a portrait painter of Holstein and Danish nobility to its customers. From 1722 he worked from Hamburg for the Danish royal family. 1727 election was appointed Hofporträtmaler.

When Christian VI. 1730 King was, election settled in Copenhagen. 1737 he took over the administration of the royal Kunstkammer. For his extensive portrait production, he maintained a large workshop in Copenhagen.
