Johann Schicht

Johann layer ( born March 8, 1855 in Marigold Grove, Bohemia, † June 3, 1907 in Ústí nad Labem ) was an old Austrian industrialist and founder of a soap factory.

Life

Johann's father, a farmer and butcher, began in 1848 with a soap production at his home in ringed grove. Through professional success, he was able in 1867 to build a soap factory in a new building. In 1878 he handed over the company with the name Georg layer to his four sons. This name was until 1951 the name of the company.

Johann layer, the oldest son, had in 1873 to reduce the idea to shift production to Usti to transport problems of raw material. In 1880 he realized his idea and built between Kramoly and Novosedlice, the present town of Usti Střekov.

Johann layer was an active member of various trade and cultural institutions. In 1898 he was awarded for his role in the Austria -Hungarian industry. Layer can be compared with other old Austrian entrepreneurs like Tomáš Bata or Emil Škoda by building a great business empire, while the social aspects had in mind as well as the modern technology.

Business

Beginning in 1885, the small company grew consisting of 12 employees to quickly sold a lot of other items, such as candles, margarine, water glass, stearin and glycerin. Very popular was the deer soap that has been produced since the late 19th century to 2002. The brand name " Ceres ", named after the goddess Ceres, has been used for many foods and is still in use.

1894, the company was awarded the Georg layer gold medal in Usti nad Labem on the Elbe on their " patent soap " on the hygiene exhibition in Vienna.

The company also built its own engine factory and a blacksmith shop, operating coal mines and power plants. It also invested in some chemical and food production companies. A branch office was established in 1906 in Ostrava.

Due to health problems changed Johann layer his company in 1906 in a joint stock company in order, of which the family layer was 80% owner. When Johann layer died in 1907, the company had 1,800 employees. His son Heinrich Johann layer followed by the head of the company.

In 1923, the margarine factory in Wien- Atzgersdorf was built. In 1929 ten companies in the industry, among them Georg layer AG, founded in the Unilever Austria and in 1939 after the Anschluss ( Austria ) with the Unilever Germany merged.
