Johann Stobäus

Johann Stobaeus ( born July 6, 1580 Graudenz; † September 11, 1646 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian composer.

Life

Stobaeus visited 1595 in Königsberg, the Latin School. In 1600 he took there his studies at the university and sang in the church choir. From 1599 to 1608 he was a pupil of Johann Eccard, Kapellmeister of the city. 1601 was Stobaeus bassist in the electoral chapel and 1602 cantor at Königsberg Cathedral. The end of 1626 he was finally appointed by the Elector of Brandenburg to Konigsberg Kapellmeister. A post he held until his death. Stobaeus was a member of the pumpkin hut, the Königsberg poet Association to Simon Dach.

Johann Stobaeus often composed together with Johann Eccard. He published in 1642 and 1644 in Elbing in two parts whose Prussian hard songs. Stobaeus composed a series of motets, which he recorded in two collections. From Stobaeus also dates the melody to the well-known hymn search, whosoever will, one other goal, which is to be found in Protestant hymnal today ( number 346 ). The lyrics to this song was written by Georg Weissel. At its still known today Adventlied power up the door, the door makes far Stobaeus wrote the first tune, which was published in 1642, but could not prevail.
