Johann Strauss III

Johann Eduard Maria Strauss Johann Strauss III ( born February 16, 1866 in Vienna, † January 9, 1939 in Berlin) was an Austrian composer and conductor.

Life

As the son of Eduard Strauss and his wife Maria geb.Klenkhart (1840-1921), grandson of Johann Strauss ( father ), and nephew of Johann Strauss ( son ) and Josef Strauss, he first got a comprehensive musical education, then studied law and worked in the kuk Ministry of Culture and teaching. He married on April 17, 1894 Maria Karoline Emilie Hofer ( 1867-1939 ), from this marriage came four children.

On December 23 in 1898 and operetta in 3 acts " cat and mouse " Text: premiered Ferdinand Gross and Victor Leon after the submission of Eugene Scribe at the Theater an der Wien. Johann Strauss III. but failed to match the success of his ancestors, he took over from his father in 1901 the management of the Hofballmusik in Vienna and then went to Berlin as conductor. In his concert tours through Europe, he served as fiddle -playing conductor to the music of the Strauss family. 1934 and 1937 he toured in the United States

His honorary devoted grave is on Grinzing Cemetery (Group 12, Series 2, No. 7) in Vienna.
