Johann Stumpf (writer)

John Stumpf (* April 23, 1500 in Bruchsal, Bishopric of Speyer (now Baden- Württemberg), † 1577/78 in Zurich ) was a theologian, cartographer, historian and chronicler, who lived in Switzerland and worked.

Life

John Stumpf studied theology at the University of Heidelberg. In 1520 he worked in the episcopal office in Speyer. In Freiburg he was inducted into the Order of St. John. Later he was ordained a priest in Basel. In 1522 he was prior of the Knights Bubikon in the Zurich Oberland and received the ministry of the local church community.

In his Zurich time he joined the reformer Huldrych Zwingli. In 1529 he married the daughter of the chronicler Henry focal forest ( 1478-1551 ), whose handwritten documents he - like others - should be used later for his chronicle. In 1543 he became pastor in master home (now lower and upper master home ). For his services he received in 1548, the year of going to his chronicle, the citizens of the city of Zurich, where he retired in 1561.

Works
