Johann Wilhelm Löbell

Johann Wilhelm loebell (also Loebell; born September 15, 1786 in Berlin, † July 12, 1863 in Bonn ) was a German historian.

Life

He came from a formerly Jewish family. He attended high school to horror monastery in Berlin and initially began an apprenticeship as a merchant at a Berlin bank. At the universities of Heidelberg and Berlin, he then studied classical antiquity, literature and history. During the war of liberation, he worked as a volunteer in an office of the Landwehr. 1818 moved loebell as a private scholar to Wroclaw and taught at the local military academy, the subject of history. During this time he made ​​friends with Henrich Steffens and Friedrich von Raumer.
