Johanna Budwig

Johanna Budwig ( born September 30, 1908 in Essen in the Ruhr; † May 2003 in Freudenstadt ) was a pharmacist and chemist who was known primarily for its oil - protein diet.

She was of the opinion that cancer would be curable by an oil- protein diet. The so-called Budwig diet is based partly on the recommendation to eat certain foods, on the other hand, the prohibition of certain foods. It was originally intended as a diet for hepatitis patients.

This particular form of cancer diet is not recognized in modern evidence-based medicine, but is sometimes used and applied in alternative medicine circles on. However, this is contradicted by the working on similar topics Jena scientists Michael Ristow.

Johanna Budwig but did research not only in the alternative medicine field, but applied for a patent in 1982, among other things, providing for the use of ruby lasers in nuclear power plants to increase the capacity of the cooling water for radioactivity.

The Budwig Diet

It is particularly recommended the consumption of flax seeds, cold-pressed linseed oil, curd and cottage cheese. Flax seeds contain many unsaturated fatty acids, especially linoleic acid. Budwig opinion linseed oil should be part of the food as it was essential and man it could not produce itself. Cottage cheese and cottage cheese are important because they contain many sulfur -containing amino acids, the fatty acids made more soluble and absorbable. In addition ( but not peanuts ) can be consumed vegetables, sauerkraut juice, fruit or nuts.

The Budwig diet without meat, fish, butter, canned foods, margarine, pasta, frozen foods and sugar. The aim of the diet is off stodgy and heavy wholesome fats in the diet. Occur easily digestible, unsaturated fats, which should account for a major part of the food in its place. Unsaturated fatty acids act as antioxidants because they are " detoxify " free radicals, as well as building blocks of cell membranes. Dr. Budwig analyzed all naturally occurring fats and oils for optimal composition and found that in linseed ( flaxseed oil ) the highest rate of unsaturated fatty acids is present, especially in the linolenic acid, which humans can not produce itself and therefore with the food must accept. Cottage cheese with flax oil therefore also forms in many variations a significant proportion of these energetic and very invigorating food. In addition ( but not peanuts ), as well as vegetables can be eaten sauerkraut juice, fruit and nuts. Many fresh vegetables are used raw and steamed. Canned vegetables and be aroused should be avoided. Fat is abundant use, but always in conjunction with protein (eg cottage cheese with flax oil ). The combination forms in different versions based on this diet.

Budwig oil - protein diet refers to a 80 -year-old hypothesis of the Medicine Nobel Prize winner Otto Warburg for cancer of the colon, called the Warburg hypothesis, the sooner neither refuted nor proved and confirmed only in 2006 in a laboratory experiment for mice could.

Budwig concluded that the anaerobic metabolism of the tumor cells could be done with the help of a targeted nutrition back to aerobic metabolism. According Budwig has the mixture of sulfur-containing proteins, such as those contained in cottage cheese or cottage cheese, along with polyunsaturated fatty acids such as those found in flax seeds, effects on the cellular respiration of the tumor tissue. However, a proof of the described effects on the metabolism of cancer cells could not provide Budwig.

Criticism of the Budwig Diet

Oncologists and nutritionists are of the opinion that a diet alone is not able to cure cancer. Reports of cures are considered anecdotes, as there are no scientific studies on these reports and possible effectiveness of this diet in cancer. However, as a diet that accompanies an effective therapy, they can be accepted in non-repudiation of the enzyme TKTL - 1 because it is not expected that this diet is a deficiency or goes malnutrition alone. The diet is in their composition but very one-sided.

Johanna Budwig came from a generally anti-cancer effect of polyunsaturated fatty acids, however, ignored the proven in the meantime difference between omega -3 fatty acids and omega -6 fatty acids. Here, have a number of studies point to cancer-promoting effects of excessive intake of omega -6 fatty acids, whereas for omega -3 fatty acids anti-cancer effects seem possible. Thus Budwig 's hypothesis that multiple unsaturated fatty acids in principle reactivate cellular respiration in cancer cells and thus bringing the death, not tenable. Against this background, the traditions Budwig could be due to the comparatively high omega-3 and low omega- 6 content of the linseed oil used by it in relation to the healing of cancer.
