Johanna Quaas

Johanna Quaas (born 20 November 1925 born in Hohenmolsen Geissler ) is a German gymnast.

Life and career

Already in his early childhood, she started gymnastics and played their first contest in 1934. After finishing school, initially followed the mandatory duty year and later the labor service. In 1945, she completed her education in Stuttgart for sports teacher. Then she moved to White Rock, where she dedicated herself to handball, gymnastics since had been banned by the occupying powers as a supposed " military training ". With elimination of the ban in 1947, she began again with the gymnastics. From 1950 she studied at the Martin -Luther- University Halle- Wittenberg. She graduated from the state exam and worked as a trainer for sports teacher at the Institute of Physical Education founded in 1948. As an author she contributed to the emergence of the textbook Gymnastics.

During this time, Quaas did gymnastics in high school sports community science hall. From 1961 she initially worked as a gymnastics coach in SC Chemie Halle and later as a professional school teacher. Among other things, she coached the gymnasts Barbara Dix Pride and Christel Felgner - miracles that were nominated for participation in the Summer Olympic Games in 1964 and competed there for the entire German team. With 57 years Quaas began again in 1982 with the active gymnastics and was a year later GDR champion at the seventh Gymnastics and Sports Festival of the GDR in Leipzig. After the turn she took from 1990 all the German gymnastics festivals part.

Quaas 2012 was known by several YouTube videos that they showed in performances at the Tournament of Champions in the Cottbus Lausitz- Arena. The videos developed to Viral Clips and reached within a short time several million views. It was followed by numerous television and newspaper reports in German and international media, including reports in the American television NBC and ABC, as well as an appearance at Gottschalk Live. Also in numerous Chinese newspapers reported on the German gymnast.

On September 13, 2012 it was announced that Quaas an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records receives as " oldest gymnast in the world". She takes over from the late 2010 Inge Kaatz from HSG DHfK Leipzig.

Quaas is a member of the country's gymnastics federation Saxony -Anhalt and the Friedrich -Ludwig -Jahn society.

Private life

Quaas is married to the gymnastics coach Gerhard Quaas since 1963. The couple has three daughters.
