Johannes Bach

Johann Bach ( * 1604 in Wechmar baptism on 26 November 1604 † 1673 in Erfurt, funeral on May 13, 1673 ), actually John Bach, not to be confused with the similarly Johann Bach ( 1621-1686 ) mentioned musician and pastor ( founder of Lehnstedter line of the Bach family ), is the oldest certified as a composer representative of the Bach family. He is considered the founder of the Erfurt branch of the family and was a great-uncle of Johann Sebastian Bach. He was the eldest son of John Bach, brother of Christopher, and of Heinrich Bach.

Life

His life was overshadowed by the troubles of the Thirty Years' War. He apparently learned from his later father, the town piper John Suhler Christoph Hoffmann, in which he spent five years teaching boy and two years journeyman. Johann Bach then lived in various Thuringian cities, slightly longer in Arnstadt and also in Schweinfurt, where he knew the organist from 1633. After sojourns in his hometown Wechmar he came to Erfurt, where he first worked as a town musician, since 1634 played at St. John's Church organ, 1635, the Board received a Director of the Ratsmusik, 1636 from his position as organist at the Prediger Kirche took and was also included in the "City Musicanten Companie ".

In 1636 he married the eldest daughter of his teacher Mr. Suhler, Barbara Hoffmann. However, these died as early as next year with the birth of her first child. In the same year (1637 ) he entered into a second marriage with Hedwig Lämmerhirt who came from a family of Erfurt. The descendants of Johann Bach's were invariably musicians. She worked as town musicians, three of them even as their directors, and more than cantors or organist at the preacher, businessman, barefoot, controller, and Thomas Michaelis Church.

For the Bach family Erfurt had thus become over a very long period of time " primary collection point." The parents of Johann Sebastian Bach were Erfurt and were married on April 8, 1668, the merchant church. Here in Erfurt Bach ruled over a century musical life in such a way that even in 1793 all Stadtpfeifer were called " Bache ," although no one of that name more long lived among them. In the church records of the Merchants' Church alone registered over 60 baptisms, weddings and funerals of Erfurt Bach family of musicians.

Only a few compositions have been preserved from his pen. Compiled has these Johann Sebastian Bach in the recently rediscovered " Altbachischen archive".
