Johannes Grant

John Grant was a German engineer who was involved on the part of the Greeks in the defense of Constantinople Opel in 1453 against the Turks.

Life and work

About his life is as good as nothing is known, even its origin is uncertain. Maybe he was also from Scotland. During the siege of Constantinople Opel it was his duty to make the enemy tunnel systems under the ground track down and destroy them. This could be a collapse of the walls and thus a premature capture of the city can be prevented.
