Johannes Heisig

Johannes Heisig ( born April 23, 1953 in Leipzig ) is a German painter, draftsman, and printmaker in socially critical tradition of realism.

Life

Heisig comes from a family of artists. His grandfather Walter Heisig, his father Bernhard Heisig and his brother Walter Eisler were or are also a painter and graphic artist. He went up to his graduation in 1971, the Extended Thomas High School (EOS) (now the St. Thomas School at Leipzig). From 1973 to 1977 he studied painting and graphics at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig (HGB) and graduated with diploma. At the same time he worked in his father's workshop. From 1978 to 1980 he was a master student of Gerhard Kettner at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden ( Academy of Fine Arts ). From 1979 to 1980 he was a Fellow at the F F School for Art and Experimental Design in Zurich.

From 1980 to 1991 Heisig taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, since 1988 as Professor and Chair of painting and graphics. From 1989 to 1991 he was rector of this university.
