Johannes Ludewig

Johannes Ludewig ( born July 6, 1945 in Hamburg ) is a former German Secretary of State and Manager. 1997 to 1999 he was Chairman of the Management Board of Deutsche Bahn. His son is the former chairman of the ring of Christian Democratic Students ( RCDS ), Gottfried Ludewig. Since 2006, Ludewig is chairman of the National Regulatory Control Council.

Life

After graduation in 1965 at the Aloisiuskollegs in Bad Godesberg he did his military service as a reserve officer cadet in the army. He studied from 1967 to 1975 Economics at the University of Hamburg, at Stanford University and at the Ecole nationale d'administration (Paris). He received a diploma in 1971 in Paris, in 1972 a Master of Science at Stanford University and received his doctorate in 1974, Dr. rer. pol. on the " basis for simulation models of entire companies ." He was from 1975 to 1983 at the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs in the areas of energy, economics and economic policy in 1983 changed the CDU member to the Chancellery, where he was responsible from 1991 Head of the Department of Economic and financial policies as well as for the coordination of the new federal states. From 1 January 1995 to 1997, Ludewig State Secretary, Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Federal Government Commissioner for the New Federal States.

CEO of Deutsche Bahn

From 1997 to 1999 Ludewig was CEO of Deutsche Bahn AG.

Ludewig was elected by the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn AG in Berlin on 26 February 1997 as Chief Executive Officer. It should therefore be appointed on 1 May 1997 the DB -AG Management Board and its Chairman on July 9 for an anticipated two-term ( ten years). It was introduced on 22 July 1997 by Chancellor Helmut Kohl in Berlin Hotel Adlon in his office. He took over the post of Chief Executive Officer of Heinz Dürr, who moved to the top of the Supervisory Board of the company.

Particular attention Ludewigs was the punctuality of trains. Immediately after taking office, he introduced a scheme under which half of the bonuses of the then 1,600 executives " of punctuality and precision of railway operations " should depend. Later, he led the so-called punctuality indicator on a large stations, which were abolished again in early December 1999.

During his tenure covers inter alia the ICE misfortune of Eschede (1998).

Federal Government and the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn AG agreed in mid-September 1999 to the early settlement of Lewis and the long-haul Board Axel Nawrocki 30 September 1999. The main reasons for the personnel decision was the view of government and the Supervisory Board that the necessary shift in the companies could not be done, after sales and ridership stagnated. The Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn AG decided on 24 September 1999, to replace Ludewig by Hartmut Mehdorn and Nawrocki by Christoph Franz. Mehdorn entered its function in mid-December 1999, as acting CFO Diethelm Sack has held this position.

Another career

In the spring of 2000 he was a consultant for the IVG and participated in the negotiations on the Berlin Brandenburg International Airport.

From 2002 to 2011 he acted as Executive Director of the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies ( CER) in Brussels, the interests of 62 European railway companies and network operators.

Ludewig was by the Federal President on 19 September 2006 at the suggestion of Chancellor Angela Merkel ( CDU ) as Chairman of the National Regulatory Control Council appointed. The eight- member committee to check on administrative costs for business and administration and advise the government on potential savings the Dutch model laws of the Federal Government. On 12 October 2011 Ludewig was confirmed in his office.

Critique of language

He was honored by the Association German language entitled Sprachpanscher of the year for the use of anglicisms or " Denglish " (Service Point, Counter, DB Lounge ) in the public parlance in 1999.

2010 announced the new rail boss Rüdiger Grube, to reduce the " Denglish " in the parlance of Deutsche Bahn.
