Johannes Zick

John (Johann) Zick ( born January 10, 1702 Laughter, † March 4, 1762 in Würzburg ) was a South German fresco painter and father of painter Januarius Zick ( 1730-1797 ).

Life

Johannes Zick began his career as a blacksmith in his father's workshop. 1721-1724 he served an apprenticeship at Constance court painter Jacob Carl Stauder. From 1723 to 1725 he painted together with his ceiling paintings for the Munich Mary Our Lady Church.

With his family, he moved to Munich in 1728, where he was appointed court painter to the Prince-Bishop of Freising Duke Johann Theodor of Bavaria in 1732. In Munich in 1730, his son Januarius Zick was born, which was also known as a painter. Johannes Zick received inspiration for his development as a fresco painter of the late Baroque decoration painting of the Asam brothers.

From 1744-1749, he worked with numerous contracts in Upper Swabia, so the family probably lived later than 1746 Schussenried or Biberach an der Riss.

1749/50 he moved to Würzburg, where he among other things, painted the frescoes for the garden room of the Würzburg Residence.

From 1751-1759 he worked on the interior of the palace of Bruchsal, residence of the prince-bishops of Speyer.
