The St. John's Church head, even John's Church head, is a 332 m high above sea level mountain north west of Fritzlar in northern Hesse. It is located between the district and the Geismar Edertaler district of waves, but in the district of the district Zuschen.

History

On the St. John's Church head could be the Donar Oak, a Donar sanctuary of the Chatti, who stood, which was precipitated by 723 the Anglo-Saxon monk Boniface " in Geismar ". According to tradition, a chapel was built from its wood, probably the first St. Peter's Church in the near Fritzlar. There are however also presumed a previous chapel of St. John's Church in the village Hayn, which is a deserted village for many centuries, had been built from it. The remains of this church are still preserved in the midst of dense oak inventory in the St. John's Church head and can be visited together with a newly planted " Donar Oak ".

More likely, however, that the decision taken by Boniface Donar Oak stood on the cathedral hill of the present city Fritzlar. This is particularly plausible because the wood of the tree said to have been used to build the first church in Fritzlar. Also the chat tables settlement " Altgeismar ", which was excavated a few hundred meters south of the present village of Geismar in the 1970s, the Fritzlar Cathedral Hill is much closer than the St. John's Church head.
