John's Children

John 's Children were an English rock band that existed from 1966 to 1968. They are considered as precursors of both the glam rock and punk rock. Since the mid- 1990s they were uncommon again.

Band History

1965 founded Chris Townson ( born July 24, 1947 in Battersea, London, † February 10, 2008 ibid; drums) and Andy Ellison ( born July 5, 1946 in Finchley, London; vocals) in Leatherhead, England, the band Clockwork Onions which later the Few and the Silence finally called themselves. The Silence consisted of Townson, Ellison, Geoff McClelland (guitar) and John Hewlett ( bass).

Mid-1966 Townson met in southern France Simon Napier - Bell, the manager of the Yardbirds. Townson persuaded Napier - Bell, to see The Silence. Napier - Bell took the band under contract, although he expressed a more negative about them. He gave them the new name of John 's Children, after the bassist of the band, which he so - despite its rather moderate skills on the instrument - would bind to the group. Napier - Bell put the boys in white, innocent -looking outfits that stood in stark contrast to their stage show: they imitated fights with fake blood and destroyed their instruments. Townson called their show later as " theater ", " anarchy " and " destruction".

John 's Children were given a recording contract with Columbia Records, the record company of the Yardbirds. Their first single The Love I Thought I'd Found was released in October 1966 in the UK, in December under the name Smashed Blocked in the United States. The recording was recorded with studio musicians, as Napier - Bell had no confidence in the musical talent of his band. The single is one of the first recordings of the psychedelic rock and made it into the lower regions of the Billboard Hot 100, in regional charts in Florida and California even in the top 10

The second single, Just What You Want - Just What You'll Get resumed with studio musicians ( Jeff Beck played guitar on the B-side ), was released in February 1967 and reached the UK Top 40 Recording for the third single Not the Sort of Girl ( You'd Like to Take to Bed ) was rejected by Columbia, whereupon John 's Children switched to track Records, which also The Jimi Hendrix Experience and The Who were under contract.

On demand of their American record company White Whale Records John 's Children participated in the studio on the album Orgasm, which should spiced up with applause from the Beatles' film A Hard Day 's Night seem like a live album; Moreover, the applause should feign a great success of the band in Europe. Under pressure from the Daughters of the American Revolution, however, the album remained unpublished because of his title until 1970.

In March 1967 Marc Bolan replaced the guitarist McClelland. Bolan wrote some songs for John 's Children, including the next single Desdemona, because of the chorus " Lift up your skirt and fly " (Eng. " Lift up your skirt and fly ") was not broadcast by the BBC. Bolan remained only a few months at John 's Children, however, was not insignificant to her " bad guys " in Image by a chain he lashed out at live performances.

In April 1967 John 's Children were opened for The Who on tour through Germany. Your show caused riots and threatened, The Who stealing the show. After a messy appearance in Ludwigshafen they were sent home. Despite these tensions drummer Townson was launched in June as a replacement for Keith Moon, who had been injured. In his last assignment for The Who revenge for Ludwigshafen came: at the end of the concert flew him fireworks around the ears and blew it formally from the stage.

After Bolan had left the band in June 1967, two more singles, Come and Play with Me in the Garden ( a re-recording of the B-side of Desdemona with new text) and Go Go Girl ( published written by Marc Bolan, the piece of the later with Tyrannosaurus Rex brought out as a Ford Mustang ). A final recording was released as a B- side of It's Been a Long Time, a solo single by Andy Ellison. After a final tour in Germany, John 's Children broke up in 1968.

Ellison tried a solo career before 1974, the group Jet founded, under the name of Radio Stars occurred later. Townson initially formed the band Jook before Ellison joined Stars at Jet and radio. In the late 1970s he returned to the music business back and worked as an illustrator and social workers. From the 1990s there was another occasional appearances by John's Cildren and Radio Stars. Townson died on 10 February 2008.
