John A. Durkin

John Anthony Durkin ( born March 29, 1936 in Brookfield, Worcester County, Massachusetts, † October 16, 2012 ) was an American politician (Democrat ), who represented from 1975 to 1980 the state of New Hampshire in the U.S. Senate.

Durkin attended until 1959, the Holy Cross College in Worcester. Subsequently, he served from 1959 to 1961 in the United States Navy. Durkin now studied at Georgetown University Law Center, the Law School of Georgetown University in Washington, DC. 1965 he completed his studies and was admitted in 1966 in the Bars and Law Societies of New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Durkin now practiced as a lawyer in Concord, New Hampshire. In addition, he worked from 1966 to 1968 in the Attorney General of New Hampshire office, was from 1967 to 1968 Assistant Attorney General of New Hampshire and served from 1968 to 1973 as Insurance Commissioner of New Hampshire.

In 1974 he ran for a seat in the Senate. After he was declared Senate seat on August 8, 1975 to vacant succeeded Durkin to be elected in the ensuing by-election on 16 September 1975. He served on the Senate of 18 September 1975 until his resignation on 20 December 1980. 1980 and 1990, he tried unsuccessfully to become each re-elected to the Senate. Durkin now retired from politics and practiced law in New Hampshire. He last lived in Manchester, New Hampshire.
