John Adams Harper

John Adams Harper ( born November 2, 1779 Derryfield, New Hampshire, † June 18, 1816 in Meredith Bridge, New Hampshire ) was an American politician. Between 1811 and 1813, he represented the State of New Hampshire in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Harper was in 1779 in what was then Derryfield, now Manchester, was born. Until 1794, he attended the Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter. After a subsequent study of law and its done around 1802 Admitted to the bar, he began practicing in his new profession in Sanbornton in Belknap County. He also became the first postmaster of this community. In 1806, Harper moved to Meredith Bridge. Between 1805 and 1806 he was Clerk to the Senate from New Hampshire.

Harper was a member of, founded by Thomas Jefferson Democratic- Republican Party. Between 1809 and 1810 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from New Hampshire. He was also from 1809 to 1812 a member of the state militia. In the congressional elections of 1810, which were held all across the state, he was the fourth parliamentary seat from New Hampshire in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he entered on March 4, 1811, to succeed Nathaniel Appleton Haven. Since he the Federalists Roger Vose defeated in the elections of 1812, Harper was able to complete up to March 3, 1813 only one term in Congress, which was overshadowed by the discussions leading to, and then by the outbreak of the British - American War.

After the end of his time in the House of Representatives, John Harper retired from federal politics. He died on June 18, 1816 in Meredith Bridge, now Laconia, where he was also buried.
