John Agar

John Agar ( born January 31, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois, † April 7, 2002 in Burbank, California ) was an American actor.

Life and work

John Agar was born the eldest of four children. His father John Agar Sr., working in a slaughterhouse, died already in 1942. During the Second World War was John Agar in the Air Force. In 1946, he left them with the rank of Sergeant. In 1945, he married Shirley Temple, whom he had met as a soldier - he had been reassigned to her escort. With her he came later on in the film Fort Apache ( 1948). The film was his debut after acting lessons, the David O. Selznick had ordered. Selznick had taken agar after leaving the army under contract. In 1950, divorced Agar and Temple. 1951 agar married again.

Throughout his film career he appeared several times on the side of John Wayne and became friends with him. The first of these performances were in the films Sands of Iwo Jima and She Wore (both 1949). Later he became a B-movie star. He played multiple lead roles in films such as Tarantula ( 1955). Also saw agar often as a guest on television shows of the 1960s and 1970s.

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films honored him in 1981 with the Life Career Award.
