John Alcock (behavioral ecologist)

John Alcock ( born 1942 ) is an American biologist. He is a professor emeritus at Arizona State University and author of a standard work on behavioral biology.

Life

Alcock studied at Amherst College ( B. S., 1965). In 1969 he received his Ph.D. from Harvard University. Junior Professorship he was from 1969 to 1972 at the University of Washington and from 1972 to 1974 at Arizona State University, where he is a professor ever since. As a visiting professor he was at Monash University (1978/1979) and Cornell University ( 1984). As a visiting scientist Alcock was at the University of Western Australia and the University of New England.

Work

Alcocks research interest is the evolution of mating systems of insects. He studied, among others, bees, wasps, butterflies and dragonflies in Arizona and Western Australia.
