John Aleman

Jean l' Aleman (Johann the German; † after 1264 ) was by marriage Lord of Caesarea in the Kingdom of Jerusalem. As such, he was also called John II of Caesarea.

He was a son of Werner von Eguisheim and his wife Pavia Embriaco of Gibelet. His father was a German crusader who made ​​his career in the French-speaking Kingdom of Jerusalem and there Garnier l' Aleman ( " Werner of the German " ) was called. After him his descendants were given the nickname " l' Aleman ".

He married Margaret Brisebarre of Caesarea, the daughter and heiress of John Brisebarre, Lord of Caesarea. From their law, he ruled the rule Caesarea. With her he had three sons:

  • Hugo l' Aleman († spring 1264 );
  • Nicolas l' Aleman († 1277 ), Lord / Titularherr of Caesarea, ∞ 1276 Isabella of Ibelin († 1282/83 ), Lady of Beirut;
  • Thomas l' Aleman, ∞ Agnes of Blanche Garde, daughter of Rudolf Brisebarre, Lord of Blanche Garde.

When he died, his eldest son Hugo was already dead, so was succeeded by his son Nicolas as lord of Caesarea.
