John Allred (musician)

John Allred (born 1962 in Rock Iceland, Illinois) is an American jazz trombonist and songwriter. He is the son of another jazz trombonist Bill Allred, and plays in many different styles from traditional jazz, swing and mainstream jazz.

Right after high school moved John Allred to Southern California, with the "Jazz Minors " where he started his professional career as a musician, a six-member Dixieland group at Disneyland Anaheim. At the same time it found its way into the jazz scene in Los Angeles. In 1987 he accepted an invitation from Woody Herman to play in the Young Thundering Herd, where he also played together with musicians such as Stan Getz, Rosemary Clooney and Clark Terry.

Later, John Allred returned to Orlando, Florida, where he worked extensively as a studio musician. In the movie My Girl actor Dan Aykroyd mimed a Tubabläser whose soundtrack for the film grossed Allred. In Florida, he played more frequently in the Classic Jazz Band Jazz Band his father Bill Allred. In 1990, he played in the Matteson -Phillips Tubajazz Euphonium Consort on the side of Rich Matteson and Harvey Phillips ( tuba).

1999 John Allred moved to New York City, where he played in the Toshiko Akiyoshi Big Band, the Woody Herman Orchestra ( under Frank Tiberi ) and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band.
