John Amaechi

John Amaechi Ekwugha (born 26 November 1970 at Boston, Massachusetts ) is a former British- American professional basketball player, who works as a reporter at the English TV channels.

Youth

Amaechi was born the son of a Nigerian father and an English mother in the American Boston. He grew up with his mother in Stockport, England. Later they moved to the United States, where he attended St. John's High School a year in Toledo ( Ohio).

Career in basketball

Amaechi started his basketball career in high school league. College basketball he first played one season at Vanderbilt University and from 1992 to 1995 at the Pennsylvania State University. His position was center. He is 2.08 m tall and scored in his career average of 6.2 points and 2.6 rebounds. He scored the first points in the NBA of the new millennium.

After an active basketball

Amaechi studied psychology and wrote, according to a statement on his website, his doctoral thesis on psychology in children. Currently he works as a reporter at the television BBC, ITV, SKY and Channel 5 is a main activity in addition to working as a reporter his work at the ABC Foundation, a charity organization that sports centers for children in the UK builds and good coaches, mentors and teachers makes available. He was also Ambassador of Great Britain to the Olympic Games in 2012.

In his autobiography, published in 2007 Man in the Middle, he outed himself. He is the first (former) NBA player who is open to his homosexuality.
