John Anglin

John Anglin ( born 2 May 1930 in Donalsonville, Georgia, † probably June 11, 1962 ) was an American criminal who broke with his brother Clarence and Frank Morris on June 11, 1962 from Alcatraz. Anglin was detained there for theft and bank robbery, after he had fled with his brother from the federal prison in Leavenworth. In order to accomplish the escape he removed within two years of the ventilation grille in his cell. The brothers Anglin and Frank Morris escaped on the night of 11 June 1962. Probably all three drowned in the Bay of San Francisco, their bodies were never found. However, some recent evidence suggesting that the Anglin Brothers and Frank Morris escape from Alcatraz succeeded. The three are said to have fled to South America and stay in Honduras. In the movie Escape from Alcatraz (1979 ) John Anglin was played by Fred Ward.
