John Archer (athlete)

Jack Archer (actually: John Archer, born August 10, 1921 in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, † July 29, 1997 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire ) was a British sprinter who was European Champion in 1946.

The European Athletics Championships 1946 in Oslo, he won the 100m in 10.6 seconds and finished sixth in the 200 meters in 22.0 seconds, he was sixth. In the 4 x 100 - meter relay team he finished with the British team in 42.0 seconds in fifth place.

At the 1948 Olympic Games in London, the British won relay silver in 41.3 seconds behind the team from the USA. Archer ran as first runner and handed to John Gregory, Alastair McCorquodale and Ken Jones completed the quartet. 1950 Archer was at the British Empire Games in Auckland captain of the England team. In the 4 x 110 -yard relay team, he won the British relay silver behind Australia, after he was eliminated by both 110 yards and 220 yards in the semifinals.
