John Banner

John Banner (actually Johann Banner, born January 28, 1910 in Vienna, † January 28, 1973 ) was an American- Austrian actor.

Life

Before John Banner came to acting, he studied two semesters of law. He began acting at the drama school of the German People's Theater in Vienna. Initial success he experienced with the premiere of Robert Peiper - piece widows and café in Studio 32 of the Comedy in Vienna. From 1932 to 1933 Banner was obliged at the City Theatre in Bielsko, from 1934 to 1935 at the Stadttheater Reichenberg. Between 1935 and 1937 he played at the Deutsches Theater in Ostrava. After a two- year stint in Switzerland in 1938, he fled from Nazi persecution of Jews in the United States. Although he was of English not powerful, but stayed with acting, saying his lyrics being only phonetically.

In New York took Banner employment at Music Box Theatre in the musical revue From Vienna the Refugee Artists Group. It also played with sizes of the U.S. show business as Moss Hart, Irving Berlin, Eddie Cantor, who were willing to support Hitler's refugees. After an engagement at the Broadway production Pastoral he went to Hollywood in 1941. From 1943 until the end of the war served banner in the Army Air Corps.

During his Hollywood career turned Banner by his accent always Nazis and East Europeans dar. He graduated approximately 300 television appearances and 40 cinema film roles, including in the film " 36 hours " opposite James Garner.

His greatest notoriety reached banner but only at a time when he was already thinking to the exit his acting career: from 1965, with the role of Sergeant Hans Georg Schultz in the six years running television series "Hogan 's Heroes" ( original English title: Hogan's Heroes ). In contrast to Colonel Klink Schultz often knew what was going on in Stalag 13, but did not see anything. His most famous saying is " I see nothing, I hear nothing and i woaß nothing ". Sergeant Hans Georg Schultz helped the heroes often from some tricky position by he tolerated the actions of Hogan's men. In some episodes Schultz is married to a woman named Gretel, in other episodes he has only short-lasting relationships.

After finishing the filming of this series he retired, although now a U.S. citizen, back with his second, coming from Paris wife of Sherman Oaks to France. John Banner died on his 63rd birthday while visiting friends in Vienna in Sophienspital of stomach bleeding. He was at the Vienna cemetery wall in the family grave - Group 57, Series 2, Number 26 - buried.
