John Bernard McDowell

John Bernard McDowell ( born July 17, 1921 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, USA, † February 25, 2010 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States) was a Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

Life

John Bernard McDowell received his theological training at St. Vincent College. At the Catholic University of America he received his doctorate in educational sciences and in philosophy. He received 4 November 1945, the ordination.

Pope Paul VI. 1966 appointed him titular bishop of Tamazuca and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. He received his episcopal consecration on September 8, 1966, the Bishop of Pittsburgh, and later cardinal and prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy, John Joseph Wright; Co-consecrators were William Graham Connare, Bishop of Greensburg, and Vincent Martin Leonard, Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh. In 1996, Pope John Paul II against his old conditional resignation.

John Bernard McDowell was known for his commitment to education policy in the United States. He firmte over 100,000 young people.

He wrote about the seven bishops of the Diocese of Pittsburgh in his tenure in each case a biography; his own, he published 2007. Duquesne University awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1962. He was a member of the Knights of Equity, Court 9 Pittsburgh.
