John Bond (footballer)

John Frederick Bond ( born December 17, 1932 in Dedham, † 25 September 2012 in Manchester ) was an English football player and coach. As a player he won in 1964 with West Ham United FA Cup. Seventeen years later, he served as coach Manchester City in the final of this prestigious competition.

Playing career

After promotion to the Football League First Division in season 1957/58 to 1965 Bond played with his team in the English top flight. In 1964 he won with his team-mates Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst the FA Cup with a 3-2 final victory over Preston North End. In the following year, West Ham the title in European Cup Winners' Cup 1964/65 secured by a 2-0 win over the German Cup winner 1860 Munich. John Bond, however, did not come into this game used.

Coaching career

Norwich City (1973-1980)

At the beginning of his work as a coach, he led the 1971 AFC Bournemouth in the Football League Third Division. After two years in the third division, he moved on 27 November 1973 first division club Norwich City, where he became the successor of Ron Saunders. With his new team, he rose on the end of the season from the First Division from 1973/74. In the season 1974/75 Norwich tried and failed to re- rise and also the finals of the League Cup. However, this lost the team with 0-1 against Aston Villa. After five years in the first division Bond moved in October 1980 to league rivals Manchester City.

Manchester City (1980-1983)

In addition to the twelfth place in the 1980/81 season with City bond reached the final of the FA Cup in 1981, but lost it after a 1-1 draw in the first game with 2:3 in the replay against Tottenham Hotspur. In the second half of the season 1982/83 John Bond left on 3 February 1983 the club from Manchester.

After two stops in the third division side Burnley FC and Swansea City he signed on 22 January 1986 Birmingham City, but increased at the end of the season the Football League First Division 1985/86 with the newly promoted to the second division from. After a disappointing season in the second division this activity ended May 27, 1987.
