John Boydell

John Boydell (* 1719 in Dorington, † 1804 in London ) was an English engraver.

Life

Through his art Boydell was very wealthy. He could not afford the office of Lord Mayor of London readily characterized.

His most important business was the Shakespeare Gallery. Although it was completed in only one-third, they had a great effect on the romantic art. Many of these works were commissioned works, after which then Boydell created his stitches.

The young Johann Heinrich Ramberg instruct Boydell Shakespeare Gallery for his Malvolio with the scene from " Twelfth Night ", " ( owned by the Yale Center for British Art, New Haven, Connecticut, USA).

His own works Boydell signed with JB exc.

At the age of 85 years died John Boydell in London in 1804.
