John Broadhurst

John Charles Broadhurst ( born July 20, 1942 in Hendon, Middlesex, United Kingdom) is a former bishop of the Church of England since 2011 and a priest of the Roman Catholic Church. He was Bishop of Fulham in the Diocese of London from 1996 to 2010.

Life

As a child, John Boradhurst was baptized Catholic. He went to the Owens School in Islington to school. He got Theological Education as an Anglican seminarian at King's College London and at St. Boniface College in the town of Warminster. In 1966 he became a deacon, a year later he was ordained a priest.

His service began Broadhurst 1966 to 1970 in the parish of St. Michael -at- Bowes. 1970 to 1975 he was Vicar of St. Augustine's Wembley Park, then dean until 1966 in the London parish of Wood Green. In 1972 he was elected as the youngest member to date in the General Synod of the Church of England, a position he held until 1996. On September 24, 1996 he was ordained as a " flying bishop" Bishop of Fulham. He took over the pastoral care of those parishes that have objected to the ordination of women.

Conversion to the Catholic Church

John Broadhurst converted on 1 January 2011, together with Andrew Burnham and Keith Newton, and their wives, of the Church of England to the Roman Catholic Church. On 13 January 2011, he received the diaconate by Alan Stephen Hopes, Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster. On 15 January 2011 he was at Westminster Cathedral by the Primate of England and Wales and Archbishop of Westminster Vincent Nichols to Gerard Catholic priest ordained for the Pope Benedict XVI. Founded Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham. On 17 March 2011 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. Honorary Prelate of His Holiness appointed.

In 1965 Broadhurst married his childhood sweetheart, Judith. He and his wife have four children: Jane, Mark, Sarah and Benedikt.Er has great interest in family, gardening and travel. He was once an avid beekeepers and fishermen.
