John Bunny

John Bunny ( born September 21, 1863 in New York City, New York, † April 26, 1915 in Brooklyn, New York) was an American film and theater actor.

Life

John Bunny was born as the eldest son of a British father and an Irish mother in New York. Since his father was a captain of a merchant ship in the British navy the eighth generation, it was envisaged that both John and his younger brother George (1867-1952) should follow in the footsteps. Nevertheless, John Bunny decided otherwise. After visiting the St. James High School in Brooklyn Bunny worked as a clerk in a drug store before he ran off the end of the 19th century from home, as it was his dream to become an actor.

He found his first exposure to a small minstrel troupe that was in New York on tour. Here also producers were aware from Broadway to Bunny that it undertook in February 1900 for his first play, Aunt Hannah. Over the next ten years, followed by eleven more pieces in which Bunny predominantly occurred as the main character.

However, the real success comes only 1909, when he first stood for the silent film Cohen 's Dream front of the camera, and so laid the foundations for a short, but intense career as a film actor. 1910 joined the film studio Vitagraph at Bunny zoom, and developed the concept with him to the successful comedy character Mr. Bunny. The short films that were produced in 1911 were exported to Europe, and found even here a wide audience. On the side of the actress Flora Finch, which convinced as Mrs. Bunny, over 100 films were soon known as Bunny Finches. Bunny therefore is still considered one of the first U.S. world stars.

Since the two always harmonized on the big screen, it was thought at the time, Bunny and Finch were also a couple, but this was not the truth. He was married from January 1890 Clara Scallan; the two had two common sons, George and John Bunny, junior.

Bunnys success of an overweight clumsy clowns had a shadowy existence, since its preponderance of more 220 ​​kg visibly affected him health. For everyone involved surprisingly, he died at the age of 51 at his home in New York to kidney failure.

Today, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at John Bunny.

After John Bunny was first named the City Bunny Theatre in New York, but which has been renamed in the 20th century in Nova Theatre. In 2003 it was closed.
