John C. Bagby

John Courts Bagby ( born January 24, 1819 in Glasgow, Barren County, Kentucky, † April 4, 1896 in Rushville, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1875 and 1877 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Bagby attended the public schools of his home. Then he studied until 1840 at Bacon College in Harrodsburg, where he was trained as a civil engineer. After a subsequent law degree in 1845 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began in 1846 to work in Rushville in doesem profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career.

In the congressional elections of 1874 Bagby was the tenth electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican William H. Ray on March 4, 1875. Since he resigned in 1876 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1877.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives John Bagby again practiced as a lawyer in Rushville. Between 1882 and 1891 he worked at various courts as judges. He then worked again as a lawyer. He died on April 4, 1896 in Rushville, where he was also buried.
