John C. Brodhead

John Curtis Brodhead ( born October 27, 1780 in Modena, New York, † January 2, 1859 ) was an American politician. He represented 1831-1833 and 1837-1839 the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Curtis Brodhead was born during the War of Independence in Modena and grew up there. During this time he attended the district schools. After that he went commercial transactions after and worked in agriculture. Between 1825 and 1828 he was sheriff of Ulster County.

Politically, he was a member at the time of the Jacksonian Group. In the congressional elections of 1830 for the 22nd Congress Brodhead was in the seventh election district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Charles G. De Witt at March 4, 1831. Since he gave up for reelection in 1832, he retired after the March 3, 1833 out of the Congress. In the following years, he joined the Democratic Party. In 1836 he was elected to the 25th Congress, where he became the successor of Nicholas Sickles on March 4, 1837. Since he resigned in 1838 to run again, he retired after March 3, 1839, from from the Congress. As a Congressman he had presided over the Committee on Expenditures in the Navy Department ( 25th Congress ).

After his conference time he went commercial transactions after and was again employed in agriculture. He died on January 2, 1859 in Modena and was then buried in the Modena Rural Cemetery.
