John C. Brophy

John Charles Brophy (* October 8, 1901 in Eagle, Walworth County, Wisconsin, † December 26, 1976 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin ) was an American politician. Between 1947 and 1949 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Brophy attended the public schools in Milwaukee and St. Patrick 's and Marquette Academy. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy. By 1921 he was Marine. Between 1922 and 1938 Brophy worked as a mechanic. From 1939 to 1946 he sat as a member of the Republican Party in the city council of Milwaukee. In 1942, he ran unsuccessfully for Congress.

In the congressional elections of 1946 he was in the fourth electoral district of Wisconsin in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Thaddeus Wasielewski on 3 January 1947. Since the Democrats Clement J. Zablocki he was defeated in the elections of 1938, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1949. In 1950, he competed unsuccessfully to return to the House of Representatives. In the following years he was engaged in trade and in public relations. In 1969, he withdrew into retirement. John Brophy died on December 26, 1976 in Milwaukee and was also buried there.
