John Calley

John Calley ( born July 8, 1930 in Jersey City, New Jersey; † 13 September 2011 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American film producer.

Life

After his service in the U.S. Army Calley worked as a postal clerk with the U.S. NBC television network in New York City. After working worked for the production company Filmways in the early 1960s. In 1969 he moved to Warner Brothers, whose chairman he was finally. In 1980 he left the company, he was the chairman of United Artists in 1993. Three years later he took the lead of the film production of Sony. 2003 Calley retired, but remained active as a producer.

For the production of the film What Remains of the Day Calley was nominated in 1994 in the category Best film for an Oscar. Also at the BAFTA Film Awards he was nominated.

In 2009 he was awarded the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award. The Los Angeles Film Critics Association awarded him the year before with the Career Achievement Award.

From 1995 to 2002, Calley was married to actress Meg Tilly. A first marriage to the active also as an actress Olga Schoberová thought of 1972 until 1992.

Calley was the father of a daughter.
