John Casimir, Prince of Anhalt-Dessau

John Casimir, Prince of Anhalt- Dessau ( born December 7, 1596 Dessau, † September 15, 1660 in Dessau ) was a German sovereign of the race of Ascanians.

Life

Prince Johann Casimir is the son of Prince Johann Georg I of Anhalt -Dessau and his second wife Dorothea von Pfalz- simmering.

After the obligatory teaching through various tutor John Casimir studied together with his cousin, afterwards the Prince Christian II of Anhalt- Bernburg, 1608-1609 in Geneva; predominantly in their Hofmeister Markus Friedrich Wendelin, who accompanied her throughout the journey. Another companion of the two is her tutor Peter of Sebottendorf. Here in Geneva, but also later at home in Zerbst published prince John Casimir some Latin school speeches.

Still in its founding year 1617 is taken by Prince Ludwig I of Anhalt- Köthen in the Fruitbearing society. As a society name him the Penetrating and as a motto is burdened, but intended for erwehret. After his accession to the throne in 1618, Prince John Casimir devoted almost exclusively to the hunting and representative duties as regent at the Dessau court.

On May 18, 1623, he married Agnes of Hesse- Kassel, daughter of Landgrave Moritz of Hesse- Kassel. When, on May 28, 1650 his wife died, married Prince Johann Casimir after the obligatory year of mourning his cousin Sophie Margarete von Anhalt, a daughter of Prince Christian I of Anhalt- Bernburg.

A hunting accident on October 4, 1652 ties him for many years in bed. Welcome distraction offers him while the multi-year stay of the poet Philip of Zesen in neighboring Priorau.

At the age of 64 years Prince Johann Casimir von Anhalt- Dessau died on September 15, 1660 in Dessau. He is succeeded by his son Johann Georg II
