John Chapman (congressman)

John Chapman ( born October 18, 1740 in Wrightstown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, † March 27 1800 in Upper Makefield, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1797 and 1799 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Chapman grew up during the British colonial period. About his youth and education, nothing is handed down. Even before 1776 he moved to Upper Makefield. In 1779 he was justice of the peace in his home. He was also one of the appeal judges in Bucks County. Between 1787 and 1796 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Politically, he was a member of the late 1790s, founded by Alexander Hamilton Federalist Party.

In the congressional elections of 1796 Chapman was selected in the fourth electoral district of Pennsylvania in the time which meets even in Philadelphia U.S. House of Representatives, where he became the successor of Samuel Sitgreaves on March 4, 1797. Until March 3, 1799, he was able to complete a term in Congress. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Chapman did not occur in a political phenomenon. He died on January 27, 1800 in Upper Makefield.
