John Christopher Cutler

John Christopher Cutler ( born February 5, 1846 in Sheffield, England; † 30 July 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah) was an American businessman and politician ( Republican).

Early years

His parents converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints and moved to Utah when he was 18 years old. Cutler became president of the family textile company and was a member of many boards of directors of banks, insurance companies and other enterprises. He was also from 1884 to 1890 served as Clerk of the Salt Lake County.

Governor of Utah

Cutler won the election for Governor of Utah in 1904. He was from 2 January 1905 to January 4, 1909 Office. During his tenure, he established a juvenile court system, promoted investment in the local industry as well as the recording of births and deaths in the state. Due to a gap in the Republican Party, the anti - Mormon members formed an American party. Then Cutler promoted the controversial William Spry in his candidacy for the Republican governor nomination, which was successful in the end, so that the party would retain control in Parliament.

At the end of his term he returned to his former business activities. With nachlassener health, he committed suicide at the age of 82 years suicide.

He was married to Sarah Elizabeth Taylor. The couple had seven children together.
