John Crittenden, Sr.

John Jordan Crittenden (* 1754 in New Kent, Virginia; † May 1806 in Woodford County, Kentucky ) was a Major in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War and a member of the lower house of the government of Virginia, 1790-1805.

Life

He was the son of an influential family of politicians and army officers, a large role in the politics played until the end of the 19th century by several southern states.

Crittenden was the son of John Crittenden and Margaret Butler. On August 21, 1783, he married Judith Harris, daughter of John Harris and Obedience Turpin. John and Judith were eight children, including the later politician John Jordan Crittenden and Robert Crittenden. He was a founding member of the Society of the Cincinnati Virginiaabteilung.
