John D. Anderson

John D. Anderson, Jr. ( born October 1, 1937 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania) is an American engineer.

He completed his studies at the University of Florida and graduated in 1957 with honors for "Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering ". From 1959 to 1962 he worked first at the Aerospace Research Laboratory / Wright - Patterson Air Force Base as a scientist with the rank of lieutenant. In the years 1962 to 1966, he attended The Ohio State University and received the degree of " Ph.D. in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering".

Then he joined in 1966 at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory and led the group supersonic. In 1980 was appointed Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Maryland. 1986-1987 he was the Charles Lindbergh Chair held at the National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution. In addition to his professorship in 1993 he became a member of the " Committee for the History and Philosophy in Science", and in 1996 joined the faculty Historical Sciences at the University of Maryland.

In 1999, he withdrew into retirement, though he is the University of Maryland also connected as Professor Emeritus.

He is currently Curator of Aerodynamics at the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution.
