John D. Hoblitzell, Jr.

John Dempsey Hoblitzell Jr. ( born December 30, 1912 in Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia; † January 6, 1962 in Clarksburg, West Virginia ) was an American politician of the Republican Party, of the state of West Virginia in the U.S. Senate represented.

John Hoblitzell made ​​in 1934 graduated from West Virginia University. He then worked on several business segments, including the insurance industry, the real estate and banking advertising; Furthermore, he became the first president of the West Virginia Junior Chamber of Commerce. From 1942 to 1946 he served in the U.S. Navy Reserve and most recently held the rank of Lieutenant. As a result, he took over several offices at the local and regional level: he was a member of the governing body of the West Virginia University and the School Board in Wood County. 1954, he went as a delegate of his country to Washington to attend a training conference at the White House. In the same year Hoblitzell was president of the Association of the school authorities of West Virginia.

Also in 1954 he was appointed chairman of a meeting convened by the Governor of the State Finance Commission. His first candidacy for public office he aspired to two years later, but his party did not nominated him as a candidate for election to the House of Representatives of the United States. For this he was appointed on 25 January 1958 to succeed the late U.S. Senator Matthew M. Neely. Hoblitzell also joined in the by-election, but was defeated by Democrat Jennings Randolph and therefore had to resign from the Senate again already on 4 November of the same year.

John Hoblitzell retired after from politics and went back to his business. On January 6, 1962, he suffered a heart attack, the consequences of which he died.
