John D. McWilliams

John roofs McWilliams ( born July 23, 1891 in Norwich, Connecticut, † March 30, 1975 ) was an American politician. Between 1943 and 1945 he represented the second electoral district of the state of Connecticut in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John McWilliams attended the common schools and the Norwich Free Academy. Then he studied until 1910 at the Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania. As a result, he was active in the construction sector in Norwich. During World War II he was employed from 1918 to 1919 as a soldier in the U.S. Army in Europe. After his return, he again worked in the construction industry in Norwich.

McWilliams was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1935 and 1942 he was a town councilor in Norwich. In the congressional elections of 1942 he was in the second district of Connecticut in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he entered on January 3, 1943, to succeed William J. Fitzgerald. But since he 1944 the Democrats Chase G. Woodhouse defeated in the elections of the year, he was able to complete up to January 3, 1945, only one term in Congress, which was determined by the events of World War II.

Between 1950 and 1960 John McWilliams worked for the company General Dynamics Corporation in Groton. After that, he was employed by the city of Norwich, where he died in 1975.
