John Daggett

John Daggett ( born May 9, 1833 in Newark, New York, † August 30 1919 in Siskiyou County, California ) was an American politician. Between 1883 and 1887 he was Deputy Governor of the State of California.

Career

About the year 1852 John Daggett came with his brother David to California where he worked in the mining business. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. Between 1859 and 1861, and again from 1881 to 1883 he sat as a deputy in the California State Assembly.

1882 Daggett was elected to the side of George Stoneman for Lieutenant Governor of California. This post he held 1883-1887. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. From 1893 to 1897 he directed the Mint in San Francisco. Then he was again active in the mining business. He died on 30 August 1919. Daggett The city was named after him.
