John, Dauphin of France, Duke of Touraine

Jean de Valois (* August 31, 1398 in Paris, † April 5, 1417 in Compiègne ) was the fourth son of the French king Charles VI. and Queen Isabeau.

Jean was appointed in 1406 to the Lord of Mortagne, in 1407 a peer of France, Duke of Touraine in 1414 and 1415 to the Dauphin of Viennois and therefore heir to the throne after his three older brothers were in 1386, 1401 and 1415 just died. Well a year later he still received the title of Duke of Berry and Count of Ponthieu. But Jean was only 18 years old when he was poisoned in April 1417 in Compiègne. His successor as the fifth Prince Charles VI. was his youngest brother, the future Charles VII Johann was buried in the Abbey of Saint - Corneille.

Jean de Valois was since August 6, 1415 Jacqueline of Bavaria ( * 1401, † 1436 ), married the Countess of Holland and Hainaut and heiress of Duke William II of Bavaria. The marriage of at the wedding 16 and 14 years old couple remained childless. Jacqueline married a year later, she joined in her life four marriages.
